How to Install a Recessed or Wall-Mounted Electric Fireplace: A Step-by-Step Guide

Electric fireplaces have become a favorite for homeowners, designers, and contractors alike. They bring warmth and atmosphere without the hassle of chimneys, gas lines, or heavy construction. Two of the most popular options are recessed fireplaces (built into the wall) and wall-mounted fireplaces (hung like a TV).

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the installation basics, so you know what to expect and how to plan—whether you’re a retailer advising customers, a contractor handling a project, or a homeowner upgrading your living space.

1. Plan the Location

✅ Choose the right wall: Pick a spot with access to a standard electrical outlet.

✅ TV compatibility: Many customers love installing electric fireplaces directly below a TV. With modern designs like our EdgeLine series, this is absolutely possible—just follow clearance guidelines in the product manual.

✅ Avoid heat-sensitive materials: While the heater blows warm air forward, it’s still best not to block the airflow with curtains, furniture, or soft décor.

2. Measure the Space

  • Recessed fireplace: Match the cut-out dimensions in the installation manual. With Zihan’s new-generation models, all air intakes, outlets, and controls are located on the front panel—meaning no extra ventilation gaps are required.
  • Wall-mounted fireplace: Use the provided mounting template to drill holes and check alignment with a level.

3. Prepare Electrical Connection

  • Most fireplaces are plug-and-play into a standard outlet.
  • For a flush recessed look, some contractors choose hardwiring—consult a licensed electrician if this is needed.
  • Ensure the outlet can handle the fireplace’s wattage (typically 1400W–1800W).

4. Install the Unit

🔨 For recessed fireplaces

  1. Frame and cut the wall opening.
  2. Insert the fireplace. With slim-frame models like EdgeLine, the frame covers the wall edge seamlessly, achieving a “built-in” look.
  3. Secure with screws provided in the kit.
  4. Connect power and test flame + heater functions.

🪛 For wall-mounted fireplaces

  1. Drill holes according to the mounting template.
  2. Fix the wall bracket firmly.
  3. Hang the fireplace onto the bracket.
  4. Plug in and test.

5. Special Note on Older Models

Most of our fireplaces are fully front-venting and suitable for recessed installation. The only exception is our SoundFlame series, which has side lighting and top speakers. This model is recommended for wall-mount installation only, not recessed.

6. Final Touches

✨ Add finishing trim or surround (if included).

✨ Style the area with a mantel, shelving, or wall décor.

✨ Sit back, switch on the flame effect, and enjoy the ambiance.
